Sharing Beyond Books #79 Comment Giveaway 12/22/12

Hello and Welcome to another SBB!

Well - it is close enough now to wish everyone a very
  and Blessed holiday week!

Thank you to all who shared last week.

Actually about half of commenters do not get up early to read... mostly because many of you stay up really late to read! LOL  And I do appreciate the need to watch the clock in the morning, like Di, so you don't get the kids up late, like Jolene.

Most of us do give donations year around. I like nrlymrtl's idea of getting local crafts as gifts.

The Winner from SBB #78 comments is: #9 Jolene. There are still 5 'love' books to pick from and new Christmas choices. Jolene please choose a book (or GC if international) from the remaining five Love Books List for Giveaway, the new Christmas Giveaway Book list, OR pick from the Updated ARC/Review List and let me know your choice, your address and a choice of bookmarks by completing the WINNER FORM.

WEEK #79 Questions

Q1. Marjorie asks a book question: I bought a kindle and I enjoy it, however, I would rather have a good old book in my hand anytime. How do you feel about using an ebook.??
I think we have touched on this discussion before and it is timely since some of you may be planning/hoping on getting  an ereader as a gift.*grin*
I have now had my Kindle (the old 2nd generation) since 2009. As much as I still like 'real' paperback books, I think I am doing a greater portion of reading on the Kindle (or listening with my MP3). Even the print books I receive I often end up purchasing on Amazon as I can read the books faster, with the Kindle reading to me while I do those menial, but necessary tasks, like putting on make-up, folding laundry etc. :-) I also have my tablet but haven't started reading on that yet.

Q2. My holiday related question this week: Do you have a gift you HOPE to get or a special gift that you are giving this year??
A: I'm not anticipating anything special... our cruise and Hawaii visit are our Christmas present to ourselves. We left a check and gifts back home and have a check for our son and d-i-l. We did buy a special surprise gift for them on the cruise but I can't say what it is in case my son should look at the blog.:-) .
Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! We can always use fresh questions.

Your turn to share:

1. Marjorie says/asks: I bought a kindle and I enjoy it, however, I would rather have a good old book in my hand anytime. How do you feel about using an ebook??

  1. 1. I love the smell of a book, plus I like to read before bed after I take my contacts out, and I just can't see my ereader screen without my contacts or glasses, so I prefer a physical book. However, ebooks are so much easier to take places and they take up a lot less space.
    2. I am hoping to get some make-up and perfume. The most special gift I am giving this year is a little odd - my husband and I are getting our dog a 1-year pass to the nearby dog park.

  2. 1. I love my Nook color for traveling and reading at lunch but I do still enjoy reading library books.
    2. No special gift requests - we're saving up for another cruise

  3. 1. I was adamant about sticking to reading physical books only, then I started book blogging, in came all those eGalleys for review and reading at the computer just plain stinks, sooo ... I do own a Kindle now and I love it! It's not just a lovely little gadget, it also saves me so much space which "normal" books would take away.

    2. Hmmm ... I'm not sure! I mean, I love surprises and am usually far too good at guessing what people might have got me as a present, so I am always hoping for something that totally catches me off-guard when I unwrap it!

  4. 1.I love printed books but space considerations & cost have made me more accepting of ebooks. Most of the books I buy nowadays are ebooks.
    2. I was given an early Xmas prez today by my sis & it was exactly what I wanted; a handbag. Sisters are the greatest!

  5. Congrats to the winner.
I read paperbacks. I love the feel of the book. I don't have an e-reader but I see how many stories I'm missing out on by my favorite Authors because they are only digital. Maybe soon I'll get one.

I'm not expecting anything special. All I ever ask for are GC's and books. :)

    Happy Holidays to everyone.

  7. About the first question.. I bought an ereader about 6 months ago, and It didn't last long, the screen broke. Now, I'm back to paper books and I love them more than ebooks. I prefer to have a really big book on my hands than a skinny electronic tablet. One thing, is the smell. I love the smell of books, and If I smell an ereader, well, that wouldn't smell like a truly book (Or something good, at least). For me, never, the ebooks are going to replace normal books.

Well, I really don't think of what I want to get, I'm just happy if someone gift me something, anything would be awesome!. Still, books are my best gifts. :)

  8. I have a kindle and I love it for indie books and mainly for apps and my kids like to run off with it :) My husband got me a fire in hopes it would help with my crazy book buying, but truth be told, I still prefer paperbacks. If it's a author I follow or part of a series or just a really cool cover, I want it in a paperback and I want it on my shelf

My kids and family know me well and I am hoping for a new book or just a gift card to Barnes and Noble. I did ask my husband for some new perfume and had to specifically write down the scents I would love. No more surprised on that front after he tried to buy me some last year, without even smelling it himself.....we both gagged! :)

  9. 1. Even though I have a Kindle I still prefer tree books. For me holding a 'real' book is part of the experience.

    2. I know exactly what I'm getting for Christmas. My family know me well & know what I would want & like. So, I can expect delicious bath products, a nightie from my Mother, chocolates, books and so on. The surprise is in the details.

    Merry Christmas!!

  10. 1. I use the Kindle app on my iPod touch to read ebooks, which I definitely enjoy. :)

    2. For Christmas, I asked for books, beauty products, and accessories.

  11. I jump back and forth between the kindle and real books. There are many older books that haven't been ebooked yet, while there are many new indie & small publisher ebooks that are not in paper yet. But I don't think I will ever be able to give up my paper addiction.

This year, we made jelly & jams for the 1st time ever, so that is our special gift to family and friends.

  12. I prefer an actual book. I like the feel of a book and the smell. It feels different than my kindle. Thanks for the giveaway. Tore923@aol.com

  13. I like my kindle for the convenience of a lot of books in a small space but still prefer a real book.

The only gift I will get is from my son and DIL and I have no idea what they have decided on. I don't give clues of what I might want or anything. If I really want something, I get it myself. This way I will be surprised.

  14. I generally read a lot of books on my Kindle but some authors I still buy print versions of for my collection (but many of these I am now getting eCopies of also).
I just hope my family has a good holiday.

  17. 1. I don't have an eReader, but I think if I get one I'll mostly use it for books I want to read that are only in digital format, I think I'll still go mostly with print books.
    2. I was excited to give my sister-in-law a framed print from one of her favorite places - Charleston, SC
