It's Monday! What Are You Reading? October 8, 2012

This meme starts at Book Journey!

What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

This was a good week - busy as always.

Relentless Pursuit
by Sara Orwig
I received this for survey.
My Rating 3.5
Book Description
Publication Date: May 1, 2012 | Series: Harlequin Desire (Book 2159)
A cool million to help a withdrawn child in time for kindergarten? Widowed teacher Ava Barton is touched that the girl's guardian, Texas billionaire Will Delaney, cares so deeply. But the job includes moving into Will's mansion for the summer. And suddenly, Ava is working nights and weekends trying—unsuccessfully—to resist the gorgeous tycoon down the hall. Will wants her in his bed for June, July and August. But come fall, he'll move on. Unless she can teach him a thing or two about opening his guarded heart to love.

Mini Review:
I was not very interested in reading the story from the blurb. How many women really get to hang with a billionaire? It was so clear he was going to be a playboy. However Ava's down-to-earth and determined personality helped give the story more interest especially with Will’s sincere caring for his niece, Caroline. He wasn’t a complete jerk. The focus around the child, Caroline, working to pull her out of her solitude and sharing with the puppy, made the story worthwhile.

I liked that Will cared about his niece and that he was willing to recognize that Ava wasn't like other women and finally he was willing to make a commitment. I don’t read this line often but for those who do you should enjoy this especially with the child element.

Line Edits: We released Death to the Undead by Pembroke Sinclair this week, the sequel to Life After the Undead. This is an inspirational zombie story.
Before Death to the Undead opens, tough teenager Krista’s parents are killed by the zombie horde, but she escapes to the safety of Florida. After her reunion with General Liet, a distant cousin, she moves with him to North Platte to help build a wall to keep the zombies in the West. Krista falls in love with Quinn, a survivor and fighter from the zombie-infested wildlands of the West, and together they free the garrison at North Platte from the power-hungry Liet.

Now, North Platte is free, but Liet was not the only one using the zombie apocalypse to control their people. Florida is ruled by five ruthless Families, who use intimidation and the threat of the zombie horde to coerce their populace. While trying to solidify their new relationship, Krista and Quinn hatch a desperate plan to run guns into the state and help the people revolt. When The Families label Krista and Quinn rebels and attack North Platte, Krista and Quinn run for their lives. The Families want them captured, the zombies want to eat them, and other survivors want them dead. Caught in between powerful forces, they must survive long enough to devise a new plan and put it into action, all while trying not self-destruct in the meantime.Type a description for this product here...

The Aleppo Codex: A True Story of Obsession, Faith, and the Pursuit of an Ancient Bible
by Matti Friedman
This is very interesting. I am on disc 5 of 6 so I expect to finish and post the review this week. Reviewing for HighBridge Audio through AudioBook Jukebox.
Book Description
Publication Date: May 15, 2012
In an age when physical books matter less and less, here is a thrilling story about a book that meant everything. This true-life detective story unveils the journey of a sacred text—the tenth-century annotated bible known as the Aleppo Codex—from its hiding place in a Syrian synagogue to the newly founded state of Israel. Based on Matti Friedman’s independent research, documents kept secret for fifty years, and personal interviews with key players, the book proposes a new theory of what happened when the codex left Aleppo, Syria, in the late 1940s and eventually surfaced in Jerusalem, mysteriously incomplete.

The codex provides vital keys to reading biblical texts. By recounting its history, Friedman explores the once vibrant Jewish communities in Islamic lands and follows the thread into the present, uncovering difficult truths about how the manuscript was taken to Israel and how its most important pages went missing. Along the way, he raises critical questions about who owns historical treasures and the role of myth and legend in the creation of a nation.
