Sharing Beyond Books #60 Comment Giveaway August 4, 2012

Welcome to another SBB!

I had a busy week as I mentioned in Friday Pick post. I was hoping to work in the office today but I had to pull my share of cleaning the RV which had been disabled for two years. We just got the transmission fixed as we are going to be traveling soon. So I spent 9am to 5pm scrubbing floors and drawers and carrying boxes of dishes and pots and pans into the house to wash.  I am tired and my body aches!

Thank you to all who shared last week.

Interesting that most of you do not watch movies or read books that win awards.  Seven of  twenty-one have seen award winning movies; but only three of us have read a book because of an award. Cheryl checks out the RITAs for good romances. :-)  Several others do follow movie and book review recommendations... me too.

WEEK #60 Questions

Q1. Margaret asks: If there is a movie being made based on a book do you read the book first or see the movie first??
A: I would like to say I read the book but I have seen many movies before I realized there was a popular book, like Gone With the Wind, Casablanca, The Princess Bride and most of the James Bonds films. I did read Lord of The Rings, Left Behind and others before seeing those movies. I've read Hunger Games and The Road but haven't seen either movie yet.

Q2. My question: What is your favorite romance movie??
A:  I recently saw a list of fav romance movies. I can't find it right now. But there were some classics and some modern movies.
I do like You've Got Mail, Ever After, Robin Hood (with Kevin Costner), Sommersby and The Last of the Mohicans. But my fav, is portrayed by this pic:

(While You Were Sleeping)

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask.  Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I will draw from the suggestions I used the month before and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions but some of you others might want to get in a question or two as we have a few people submitting most of the questions so far.  Either way - it works for me. :-)  The question list is being replenished!  Thanks for sending in questions!

  1. 1. If it is a movie based on a book that I am interested in, yes, I will read the book first - this mainly applies to fantasies. If it is a book that is not in a favorite genre of mine, I will see the movie without reading the book (for instance, The Notebook and Her Sister's Keeper). The only movie I have seen and wished I read the book first was The Prestige, but I didn't know it was a book until a few years after I saw the movie.
    2. My favorite romance movie would definitely be Down with Love; I much prefer romantic comedies over true romances.

  2. 1. I usually stay away from movie adaptations where I know the book, though occasionally I watched such movies, like "Marley & Me" or "The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic" and they were actually quite ok.

    2. My all-time fav romance movie is "Pillow Talk" with Doris Day and Rock Hudson. I've watched it so often I already know the dialogues by heart! A close second is, believe it or not, "While you were sleeping"! :-)

  4. 1. I often prefer to read the book first, but sometimes I will see a movie and then hunt down the book because the movie was brilliant viewing. THE HOBBIT (part 1) is screening at the end of the year, so I have re-read the book in preparation. With THE HELP, I loved the movie so much I just had to read the book.

    2. I know GONE WITH THE WIND is more sweeping epic than romance movie, but for me it's the romance between Rhett and Scarlett that draws me back time and again.

  5. Star Dust is my favorite romance movie because it covers so much - first serious infatuation (not reciprocated); falling in love with someone who doesn't notice; finally getting it right and then the big misunderstanding; and then truly, deeply, all in.

Plus there is action, magic, bad guys and gals, the most awesome sword fight ever, and a unicorn.

  6. It's hard for me to read a book after seeing the movie because I know the ending so I have to read the book first.

My favorite romance movie is Pride and Prejudice.

The Notebook.. That's a wonderful movie, and the book is so sweet.. I wish I could found a love like that!
And the second movie, it's The Vows, also with Rachel McAdams.. If you haven't seen that movie I totally recommend it to you!! Soooooooo romantic =)

  9. if a movie is going to be made from a book, I probably won't read the book first because movie's quite often don't follow the book very closely, and that can be disconcerting while watching.

I adore the Kevin Costner Robin Hood & Last of Mohicans (love the music score) too. A newer favorite is Russell Crowe's Robin Hood - hope they make a follow-up.

  20. 1. I think I would see the movie first because usually, not everything in the book would be included in the movie. So if I watch the movie first, then I wouldn't notice any glaring omissions.
