Sharing Beyond Books #47 Comment Giveaway May 5, 2012

Welcome to SBB! Oh dear - it looks like I linked the wrong post although you can always find the link through the right sidebar Quick Links or the blog archive.

Thank you to all those who commented last week.

Several of us picked Space Opera or Sci Fi for a "next life" setting and a couple picked cozy mystery.  Three picked Historical Romance, Krystal wants to keep her same life (*smile*) and Abby couldn't quite decide so she may bounce from historical to mystery to futuristic.

What? No one had a Mickey Mouse watch?? Several liked their wrist watches, including Bridgit's wind-up kiddie watch. But I like marybelle's family "Bonging" clock.

WEEK #47 Questions

Q1. This week mamabunny13 asks: What is the name of the restaurant with the most romantic setting/atmosphere that you've been to and what is it about the restaurant that makes it so romantic?
A:  Oh boy... I haven't been to a romantic restaurant for some time. My DH and I thought a bit and agreed on a restaurant in downtown West Palm Beach called "This is It Pub". It was dark, candlelit cozy and being together made it romantic. I think it may have changed since 17+ years ago.
This picture reminds me of the pub but this is courtesy of

Q2. My question this week:  Share a restaurant or meal from a book you just finished or are currently reading; identify the book too.
A: Let's see... I just finished a horror, ghost story today but I can't remember any meal scenes. So the book I finished Thursday was The Book of Madness and Cures. One of the meals they shared on their journey consisted of bread, olives, sliced boar meat and cheese.

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask.  Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I will draw from the suggestions I used the month before and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions but some of you others might want to get in a question or two as we have a few people submitting most of the questions so far.  Either way - it works for me. :-)  The question list is being replenished!  Thanks for sending in questions!

  1. 1. Ok this is sad, but I've never been to what anyone would consider a "romantic restaurant" *sigh*.
    2. Ok (again) I guess it's not helpful that I'm currently in full swing of reading non fiction books, none of which are food related. On second thought, they did mention a barbecue in the memoir "Home to Roost" by Tessa Hainsworth. And my current read "Overdressed" by Elizabeth Cline isn't exactly about food either, more about indulging in too much clothing.

  2. 1. The restaurant is called ENCORES. It sits beside a performance theatre - hence the name. The side wall opens out to the night sky. It's beautiful on a warm, Spring evening.

    2. I don't think anyone eats in the books I read. At least not that I remember.

  3. 1. It was in Paris, France. I don't remember the name of the restaurant, but it had a view of the Eiffel Tower.
    2. The Darkest Kiss by Gena Showalter- there was a chicken pot pie

  5. 1. It doesn't have a romantic setting, but there's this Malaysian restaurant called Penang and the food is amazing and you can create your own romantic atmosphere.
    2. I just finished reading Christina Dodd's Betrayal and the heroine adores the pork tortas from a restaurant called Taqueria Guadalajara.

  6. 1. Blue Hawaii (Virginia Beach) is the name of the restaurant with the most romantic setting. It was beautifully decorated, nothing cheezy though. They served the most amazing food and drinks. They played authentic music and had hula dancers on certain nights. I loved that the tables were not all bunched together so I never heard anyone elses conversation. It could be crazy fun or romantic. On the night hubby proposed over a candle lit dinner it was very romantic *sigh...
The family that owned it has since moved back to Hawaii :(

    2. I am currently reading "Innocent Traitor" by Alison Weir. So far one scene has a meal served that included wine, roast pork with an herb crust, raisin and cream stuffing, carp, fig pie, and sirloin of beef which everyone stood and saluted. It was a very old English tradition but with todays prices it would be saluted at my house because it most certain would be a treat! lol

  7. Q1- I find the Old Spaghetti Factory romantic ;)
curious i know, but the antiques, rugs, stained glass and lamps all add up to atmosphere for me... plus having shared many great conversations at some level of intimacy :)
    Thx for the great question..

Q2- I enjoyed Eat Cake with all the yummy recipes Jeanne Ray included !

plus Friendship Bread by Darien Gee who has a great website featuring all the possibilities of using the friendship bread starter from the book - find them at http://www.friendshipbreadkitchen.com/recipe-box

  8. 2. I just finished re-reading Judith McNaught's A Kingdom of Dreams. It's set in the historical age so a meal to them was various meats roasted over a spit and bread. That's about all they ate for most of it. Oh, and wine of course.
