Sharing Beyond Book #44 Comment Giveaway April 14, 2012

Welcome to SBB! Has everyone had a nice spring week? I only wish I could get outside a bit to enjoy it.

Thank you to all those who commented last week.
There were a lot of different choices of authors to be stranded with.  There were three authors who were chosen twice: Veronica Roth (real dystopian author), Neil Gaiman (real children's author) and Richard Castle (fictional author). :-)

The broken bones experience was very split: 8 of us had no broken bones and 9 did have broken bones. Three people had broken toes...yes Sarah, those count!

The Winner from SBB #43 comments is: #12 bn100. WEEK #44 Questions

Q1. This week Abby asks: What is your earliest childhood memory of and how old were you??
A:  I am very nearsighted and they didn't find out until I was 6. So there was apparently a lot I didn't see at a young age. But when I was 5 we visited Nova Scotia and I remember looking over a small bridge and seeing star fish magnified in the water. On the same trip we picked spiny burrs and stuck them  together to make baskets.

Q2. My question this week is a book Q to go along with Q1.  I thought it had been asked before but I don't see it on our list - sorry if it is a repeat: What is the earliest book you can remember??
A:  I started reading very early, even under the covers with a flashlight, but the book I always remember reading on my own is Smoky the Cowhorse.

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask.  Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I will draw from the suggestions I used the month before and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions but some of you others might want to get in a question or two as we have a few people submitting most of the questions so far.  Either way - it works for me. :-)  The question list is being replenished!  Thanks for sending in questions!
Your turn to share:

1. What is your earliest childhood memory of and how old were you???

2. My question is: Have you ever had a broken bone??

  1. My earliest memory is of sitting on my grandfather's lap, rocking in the rocking chair. He would tune the old wooden radio to get some great music and smoke his pipe. His pipe tobacco smelled like cherries. He used say that I was the best little grand devil that he ever had!
    I was four years old.

My first book that I read by myself was 'The Little Engine That Could".

  2. Congrats winner.
My very first memory was when I was about 4. I remember sitting up in bed and hearing my Mom humming and looking around the room to see my sister in her crib. My Mom came over and she just said "you're up from your nap" and kissed me on the forehead. That was my first memory.

The first book I remember was Heidi. My sister and I used too take turns reading it at night.

  3. 1. I have a lot of memories from my 5th year. I can picture the house clearly & the school. I remember my Father driving us to school. The beans I was growing & my china faced doll Petronella. Heaps more. I don't have memories from before 5.

    2. I can recall the HEIDI from way back when, quite clearly.

  6. Honestly, since I'm a neuro major...I know the cut-off for when I can remember Christmas...I definitely remember when I was about 7, going to my grandparents' house and getting Barbies :D

I have broken both my arms when I was younger...from falling off a rock. Now I have fallen from the top of pyramids (cheerleading) and been fine, it's rather contrary

  7. I remember when I was 4 and my sister was 3 and she fell down the stairs and split her head. I mostly remember staying at home while my mom took her to the hospital because my dad gave me coffee. I was so excited to try coffee.

I don't really remember what books I read as a kid. I do remember having a whole wall of books and running my own library, complete with library cards and check out cards. I was maybe 6 at the time.

  8. My first memory is of my 4th birthday...my sister's balloon flew out the window and I was the one who thought I could catch it. I went in the back yard and the neighbor's dog, a boxer, knocked me down. That started a 30 year fear of dogs. I finally got over it and we now have 7.

The first books I remember reading are the Dick and Jane readers in second grade. Way back then...the 50s, you were not taught to read til second grade and the wonderful Mrs. Buchman taught me that incredible skill. She is also the only teacher whose name I remember.

  13. 1. Earliest memory. Probably one of my birthdays where I got a tricycle as a present. I think it's also because of the pictures that I remember this one.

    2. One of those Sesame Street books! They were my life then.
