Sharing Beyond Books #41 Comment Giveaway March 24, 2012

Hi SBB friends. I am feeling almost relaxed tonight - I had a busy week but seemed to accomplish a lot. I hope everyone else had a good week too. :-)

Thank you to all those who commented last week.
We picked various sidekicks although several of us liked Roarke :-), two liked Hermione, two liked Bear Grylls (a survivor's choice!) and three picked family members! Mystica and Rikki picked their husbands and marybelle picked her daughter. That is rather cool and a nice idea.

Only one other person, Faith Hope CherryTea, has been to a book conference. That is unfortunate that there aren't opportunities for those overseas. Aik and Jane have been to book fairs. I was thinking about asking about author signings in a future question but two included that in their answers (marybelle and miki). Sarah is going to BEA this year! Hmm that is in June...maybe there is still time for me to plan to go too!

The Winner from SBB #40 comments is: #9 Sarah. There are still 8 'love' books to pick from and 2 Christmas choices. Sarah please let me know if you want a GC (if you are international) or choose a book from the remaining Love Books List for Giveaway, remaining Christmas Giveaway Books, OR pick from the ARC box and let me know your choice, your address and a choice of bookmarks by completing the WINNER FORM.

WEEK #41 Questions

Q1. This week Margaret asks: Are there books that you would not read in print or e reader but would listen to on audio??
A:  There are many books I love to listen to on audio. I think I choose to listen to longer books and series like: Maria J. Snyder's Study series - then I wanted to buy the books. :-) So far I have listened to all Carriger's Parasol Protectorate and all of  Briggs' Mercy Thompson series on audio. I plan to listen to all of the J.D. Robb Eve Dallas series on audio as well.  These three pictured are on my next listen list!

Q2. My question is not really book related this week: Do you have a hobby other than reading??
A:  I used to have other hobbies but between the publishing work and the review blog I have no time left for a hobby. :-( But if I had more time I might do a little more gardening  - I used to have Bonsai - or I might do a little needlepoint as I have some unfinished projects!

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask.  Input suggestions in this Suggested Question FormAt the end of each month I will draw from the suggestions I used the month before and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions but some of you others might want to get in a question or two as we have a few people submitting most of the questions so far.  Either way - it works for me. :-)  The question list is being replenished!  Thanks for sending in questions!

Your turn to share:

1. Margaret asks: Are there books that you would not read in print or e reader but would listen to on audio??

2. My question is: Do you have a hobby other than reading??

SBB Comment Winners can choose a selection from the remaining  Valentine and "Love" books or the remaining Christmas Giveaway Books - there are still about 10 books available to choose from. Also I have added the Review and ARC Box now.

  1. 1. I honestly don't know. Believe it or not I've never listened to audio books before ... unless my Grimm's fairy tales on tape when I was a kid count?

    2. Photography! I rarely leave the house without my little compact camera, but after Mom gave me a Nikon DSLR as a present last year I'm often hauling my new "baby" along for some photo sessions in town. Oh and I also love to travel which unfortunately is a hobby I can't indulge in as often as I'd love to.

  2. 1. I don't think the medium would change my preferences. If it is not something I would read, I don't see why I would be inclined to listen to it.
    2. I knit, sew, embroider & crochet. I always have a project on the go & one in the thinking stages to do next. At the moment I am knitting kitchen dish cloths. I got so disgusted with the sponges I was buying that I decided to see if I could make something myself. So I googled & found some fabulous patterns. They are lacey & pretty & practical and friends & family are begging for some too.

  4. 1. Am an not sure. I am discovered that I love audio books, and since I do not have many, I will listen to whatever I can get. But I will also read pretty much anything.
    2. I love to do cross-stitch, but I don't get much time. I also greatly enjoy baking. My work, running a community theatre, means I spend all my time working while my actors are indulging in THEIR hobby - and with such a weird schedule, I do not have time for much else.

  5. I love listening to Meg Cabot books on audio tape...not sure if I'd rather listen though.
My hobby would be books and school...

  6. Congrats to Sarah on her win.
I only read Print books. I've never listened to audio books and don't have an e-reader yet. But I will get one in the future because I'm missing out on a lot of great reads. :)

I'm s addicted to my reading and what with my life there really isn't much time left for anything else. But when I do get the time I love to go to Estate sales, yard sales and Antique stores.

  10. 1. Nope, I either have an ebook or a physical book, audio books, I'm using my ears instead of my eyes, which is a key experience in my reading :)

    2. Nope, just reading, I love books! Must read more books!

  11. 1. I have never listened to an audiobook before. Not very popular in my country. Although that would be so much easier. Although, I'd probably get yelled at for not listening when people call me.

    2. Oh dear, how long do you have!? Photography, movie-watching, sleeping, eating, window shopping, and I have LOADS of those hobby books I actually have an interest in but have no time for at the moment. *sigh*

  15. I've never tried audio books, so I can't think of any book I'd rather hear than read. I like to shop online, but I'm not sure it qualifies as a hobby.

  16. It seems that I am the rare commentor who loves audiobooks. I prefer audiobooks when there is a lot of hard to pronounce words and names and when there are obvious accents. I prefer the book over the audio for really long books.

I have little time for other hobbies. I used to love cross-stitch, and have a big project I started years ago that I haven't finished.

Q2- Do you have a hobby other than reading??
hmmm used to have so many but now health losses get in the way..
