Sharing Beyond Books #36 Comment Giveaway February 18, 2012

Welcome to another Saturday SBB. I had another pressing week. Good things at work but no time for computer visits.

Thank you to all those who commented last week.
At least eight or more of us would buy and read sequels after getting the first book free (or winning it.). Another four are in the "depends if likes the first book" group. Ricki noted that she has won or received later books in a series and had to go buy the first.

Well I am sorry most of you had no plans for Valentines. We had fun at the church dinner and we didn't have to play in the Newly Wed game this year as we did a few years ago. :-) DH did get me a bouquet of flowers that have graced the dining table all week. I hope Elizabeth had a nice dinner out and that Wolfswan1 has a good anniversary dinner on the 19th! As for scottsgal... I would be glad to skip a Valentines dinner for a cruise anytime! *BG*

WEEK #36 Questions

Q1. This week Carol L asks a question that follows well on last week's series Q:  When starting a series do you let the books wait till you're able to read them back to back or do you just jump in with Book #1??
A:  I guess I jump in with Book #1 but I used to like to have the others on hand. That is why I have several collections like Catherine Coulter, Christina Dodd, Jude Deveraux and Iris Johansen to mention only a handful of my many collections. More recently I have been buying books as I go through the series like JD Robb, the Mercy Thompson Series and a few others, which I have been reading on Audible mostly.  But I have my lists so I can pick up books I may be missing in a series if I find them on sale!
My 20 Catherine Coulter books (these are the ones I haven't read yet)

My Christina Dodd Collection plus some of the Deveraux to the left

Q2. Here is my question: Assuming you had to do these chores, which would you do first: dust, vacuum or fold laundry??
A:  I know it is a silly question but I have to do all three and I was just trying to decide which to do first. I will probably dust then fold and save the vacuuming because DH is already in bed and I wouldn't want to disturb him. Besides, we could run the Robot vacuum (love that guy!) tomorrow downstairs while I run the canister upstairs.

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask.  Input suggestions in this Suggested Question FormAt the end of each month I will draw from the suggestions I used the month before and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions but some of you others might want to get in a question or two as we have a few people submitting most of the questions so far.  Either way - it works for me. :-)  The question list is being replenished!  Thanks for sending in questions!

  1. 1. I don't like reading series back to back because I sometimes get confused about which book something happened in if I read one right after the other. So I guess I am in the jump into #1 category.
    2. I would do it in order of what I liked the least, so dust, fold laundry, vacuum. If I had my druthers, I would just vacuum.

  2. 1. More often than not I start with a book from somewhere in middle of the series and not even book 1 (I have this weird tendency to read a second book first, but not on purpose, it just often happened that it was the first in a series I bought on sale or won). Other than that I usually don't wait to have them all before reading. After all what if I don't like the first book that much? I wait how I like it and then I ponder buying the rest which, depending on the amount of books (and pages), I sometimes read back to back, or not.

    2. Oh dear! Could I just do the folding and let some minion do the rest?

  3. 1. I usually just jump in with book 1 (or whatever book of a series that piqued my interest if I can read it out of order) instead of waiting to get subsequent books first because I usually like to read a book of a series first to determine whether I enjoyed it or not before committing to buying more books in a series (I don't have unlimited funds or shelf space after all).

    2. I would fold laundry, dust and then vacuum.

  4. If it is something like the Morland Dynasty series and where each book seems to stand alone beautifully, I read each book as I get them. In my case I dont get a chance to choose so when I get something interesting I read.

I dust, I hardly fold anything and I dont vacuum. I sweep. I dont even have a vacuum. I doubt many households in Sri Lanka have one.

  5. 1. I do both. Sometimes I just jump in with book #1, sometimes wait until I have the whole series. Sometimes after the first book I may give up on the series all together.

    2. I dust, then fold. I got rid of all my carpets, so no vacuuming for me. I sweep & mop - last of all.

  6. 1. I like to jump right in with book #1 unless it's an old series (which I will read back to back).
    2. I like to fold, dust then vaccum so the dust doesn't fall on my clean floor.

  7. Q1. I jump right in and then obtain the later books. Sometimes my library will have them.
Q2. I would fold laundry first. I can't explain why.

  9. 1. I try and read them back to back, but mostly I'll read them as they come in :)

    2. I prefer dusting first, it quite, only occupies the hands, and you can think of something else as you do it :)

  10. 1. I like to read books in order so if I got a later book first I won't start reading it until I have most of the early books. If one is missing, I wait until I get it. If I start with the first book then I will read it and get the rest as they come along. The only exception I think I've made is with the In Death series by J. D. Robb. I did read one of the later books and liked it so much that I went out and got the earlier books and now I'm reading them in order and getting the new ones as they come out.

    2. I would fold laundry because it needs to be put away, then dust, even though I hate to do that, because I hate looking at it more. I would vacuum last because my cats are usually asleep and I hate to bother them! lol

  11. 1. I start with whatever book in the series sounds most interesting to me.

  12. I would try to wait if the books are coming out within months of each other, but it not I will just jump in and read the first book. I would probably choose to fold laundry first.

  13. 1. When starting a series do you let the books wait till you're able to read them back to back or do you just jump in with Book #1??
I used to wait until an author finishes a series, but unfortunately writing process's long and one day it turned out I have nothing to read xD That's why I don't wait - if I feel like it, I read the first book(and wait a year for next, forgetting about the plot :/)

    2. Assuming you had to do these chores, which would you do first: dust, vacuum or fold laundry??
    dust

  14. I would never read a series back to back. I like to vary my genres so I don't get bored. I do bore easily and I like variety.

I would fold the laundry any day. The dusting can wait forever as far as I am concerned. I use the logic that I am allergic to dust so by not dusting it doesn't get kicked up and I don't get affected by it. Isn't that good logic? It is true though.

  15. 1. When starting a series do you let the books wait till you're able to read them back to back or do you just jump in with Book #1?
I usually just jump in with book #1.

    2. Assuming you had to do these chores, which would you do first: dust, vacuum or fold laundry?
    Fold laundry. It's the cleanest.

  16. 1. If I'm a bit late getting to book 1, and book 2 is going to be coming out soon, I will wait until I get it to start book 2. But if I get book 1 right when it comes out, and it's gotten great reviews, then I can't wait!! I dive right in!

    2. To be honest, I hate chores so I would probably tell me kids to dust and fold laundry, and I would just vacuum! They can't be trusted to vacuum because they just skate around objects instead of moving them, or I'd have them do that, too! LOL There has to be a reason why having 5 kids is a good thing, and I think I just found it!!

  17. 1. I just go straight into Book #1! Then I at least have the option to not continue it if I don't like Book #1. Not that that has ever happened. Anyway, I don't have such patience as to wait to have ALL the books! That's torture!

    2. Well, I like to vacuum so I usually just use the vacuum to do the "dusting" as well. And I am not in charge of laundry (THANK GOSH) so I stick to my fave, the vacuuming!

  18. I read the books as they come out - I don't wait for the whole series.

I would pick fold clothes -

  19. I read series as I find them. I prefer to be able to read a whole series at once, but I'll take what I can get.

I would fold clothes. I rarely ever dust and I hate vacuuming.
