Sharing Beyond Books #9 August 13, 2011

Welcome to another Saturday night! Thanks for your comments this past week. I actually got to reply too! That was fun contemplating the very varied favorite books becoming movies. Lord of The Rings got the most nods for a movie that was liked even after reading the book. Charlotte's Web was next. :-) It will be interesting to see how we like some of the upcoming movies based on books we have read.

The Winner from SBB #8 comments is: #11 LU.  There are still 9 'love' books to pick from, 8 Christmas choices and 4 Summer titles below. So LU- please choose a book from the remaining Love Books List for Giveaway or remaining Christmas Giveaway Books or the summer books below and let me know your choice, your address and a choice of bookmarks by completing the WINNER FORM.

WEEK #9 Questions
I am backing down to two questions instead of three for the forseeable future to help with time constraints for all of us. I hope no one has a big objection.

Q1.  Mariska asks a multiple question this week so I am using it as Q1:  what's on your keeper shelf ? Q2: how many books/what authors? and Q3: why you love the books so much ?
AQ1 with AQ3 - The Stand Alones: Most of my Keeper Shelf is filled with some "collections" which I will get to under Q2 below.
But I have a few that are stand alone:
  • Lightening by Dean Koontz on Audio Tape-- A thrilling time travel;
LightningThe Killer Angels: The Classic Novel of the Civil War

Q2.  Mariska's question continued: how many books/what authors ? and Q3: why you love the books so much ?
A:  I have several authors whose books I am collecting to read but then I pass on the books. So I actually only have a handful that remain on my "Keeper Shelf".  Also  - since I now have books on Audible and Kindle there are keepers there too. I mostly stopped collecting in 2009 when I started reviewing since I haven't had time to read these favorite authors.
Here are some of the Authors I keep:

1.  Catherine Coulter - I started keeping her historical romances but then began to collect her FBI series too. I have all 44 of the historical books although I have only read about 15 of those; I have the seven contemporary romance and thrillers and have read four of them.  I have read 8 of the 14 FBI series and have 12 of those on hand. So total I have 63 of her books on hand; two to obtain.

2.  Christina Dodd - I am only missing one of her 33 Historicals; I have read 21 of them.  I have her two out of print books which I have read. I have seven of the nine contemporary suspense but have only read one and I have four of the eight paranormals which I have not yet read. These are her more recent releases and I have not gotten to read them yet.   Total:  45 on hand 7 to obtain.
3.  Julie Garwood -I have read 22 of her 27 books - I have not yet picked up the most recent releases. Total: 24 on hand; 3 to obtain.

I think I have too many collections to list them all. Here are the other authors whose books I have collected and have not given away. Most are about 50% read:  Mary Balogh - a large collection; Candace Camp - a large collection box (including some of the Kristen James and Lisa Gregory books); Johanna Lindsey - I have a full collection through 2008; Merline Lovelace - I have all but a few of her books; Julia Quinn - I have all but her latest books. I did have even the older books but my sister borrowed them and gave them away so now I have to collect them again.
I have several other collections but these are the primary keepers. I've added a few others to the Book Box below and I am already thinking of some not listed or included. **Sigh**

AQ3:  I love the older historicals that were not quite so explicit so those are most of my keepers. The authors of the contemporary mysteries or fantasies I enjoy for the action and humor. I collect those mostly on Kindle or Audible.
