They are here. They ride. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

His name is Ares, and the fate of mankind rests on his powerful shoulders. If he falls to the forces of evil, the world falls too. As one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, he is far stronger than any mortal, but even he cannot fight his destiny forever. Not when his own brother plots against him.

Yet there is one last hope. Gifted in a way other humans can't-or won't-understand, Cara Thornhart is the key to both this Horseman's safety and his doom. But involving Cara will prove treacherous, even beyond the maddening, dangerous desire that seizes them the moment they meet. For staving off eternal darkness could have a staggering cost: Cara's life.
Review: This is a very sexy and fast paced read.

Ares, his two brothers and sister are half angel, half demon incredibly strong and immortal. They are the Four Horsemen, Pestilence, War, Famine and Death, with the responsibility to protect humans. If the Biblical prophesies are correct then they can fight on the side of the angels. But a demonic prophesy says that if two seals can be broken out of order they will usher in the Apocalypse and become evil. Ares, who is War, is always ready for battle but socially stays to himself as he brings conflict where ever he goes.  He once had a family but they were killed by hellhounds thousands of years ago when he first learned he was more than human. He has spent years seeking vengeance and trying to hunt down and wipe out the hellhounds.

Now one of the brothers, Reseph, has had his seal broken and become evil Pestilence. He is intent on breaking Ares seal and bringing on the Apocalypse. The fallen angel who wears Ares’ protective seal is targeted but before he is killed he manages to transfer the seal to a human, Cara.

Cara is a self trained veterinarian and has a special healing gift with animals. She is afraid of her skills since she used them in self defense and killed an attacker.  A friend brings her an injured “pup” which turns out to be a hellhound puppy who bonds with her in exchange for healing. The Guardians break in trying to capture the hound and terrifying her. To make matters worse, a strange man transfers a seal to her chest.

Ares and his remaining good siblings must keep Cara safe and away from Pestilence. Added to these problems is the fact that humans are not supposed to carry seals and it will kill Cara unless they can transfer the seal. Cara is warm and loving. Though she looks weak she has an inner strength that she is going to need to draw on as she and Ares chase and are chased.

There is lots of action with many varieties of evil beings and gory battles. There is heavy passionate sex balanced with a beautiful amount of growing love and tenderness.  There is also quite a bit of rough language. This isn’t a book for the timid but if you can deal with the language, and if you like racy action and passion, this is a fine read.
