Sunday Words of Encouragement Februrary 28, 2021

We had another good church service which my husband and I attended online. Pastor continued his Crash and Burn message series this morning. He asked: Where is your citizenship? Too often we struggle to have dual citizenship. We need to remember we are citizens of Heaven living in a messed-up world where we are messengers to deliver God’s message.

Conditions of our world are becoming more unfavorable for Christ followers. We can remember that the world hated Jesus first. We consider ourselves blessed to live in America. But America is not truly a Christian nation anymore. America was founded on Christian principles, but sin has always been around. We have been like the frog in the pot – dropped in when the water was cold but now it is getting hot.

We may feel like we are facing giants in today’s society. We serve a God who has a reputation for facing and defeating giants. Numbers 13:25-31 tells the story of the group of scouts who went to explore the land God was promising to give the Israelites. Most of the men who returned spread a bad report. (Spreading misinformation is happening all around us today.) Instead of following God, they wanted to go back to Egypt.

Only Caleb and Joshua said: “…the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid…” Numbers 14:8-9. Instead of going, the Israelites waited and got stuck in the wilderness for 40 years. Numbers 14:20-35.

The Church needs to remember why we are here. When Jesus sent His disciples out to spread His message, He said “Go…” He didn’t say anything about surviving or coming back. We trust because He says: “I will be with you!” Five powerful words: The Lord is with us!

The gates of hell can not withstand the attacks of God. Who is on the offense? We need to stop being on the defensive and go on the offense. We need to lead revival- not for the exiting believers but for non-Believers. What will the cost be if the Church doesn’t engage our world head on?

We need to be out I the messed up, fear-stricken world taking the message of the Good News to the people.

The Point: Our messed up, fear-stricken world is starving for the truth and peace of the Gospel and we are the messengers.

Believers aren’t going to a party. We are going into battle. Put on the full armor and go to the battle! Ephesians 6:11-18.

The message can’t be contained, it needs to be delivered.
How do we do this?

• Purposefully form relationships with non-believers.
• Ignore the mess of the messed-up world or messed-up person. Cleaning them up is not our job. (The messier they are the more they need Jesus.) Show compassion. The Holy Spirit will sort them out if they surrender to Him.
• Stick to the message of Jesus. He wasn’t political. Lives are changed only by the truth and light of Christ.

Get ourselves in alignment with Jesus so we can share His message.

Review:
Captain Wolfe has seen the devastation that the alien enemy known as the Phage can deliver. He and his crew on the Ares have been out at the Frontier in decimating battles with the Phage. The enemy small ships are difficult enough, fast and many in number, but then there are the mammoth Alphas which are overwhelming to face. Now the crew has seen an even larger construct move in and quickly destroy a full planetary colony.

Wolfe has continually warned the Confederate leadership that the threat of invasion attack is imminent. When he requests that the military leaders begin to plan to protect the planets on the edges of the inner system, he is frustrated to learn that political factions are inclined to ignore him. It looks like they won’t provide support but that won’t stop Wolfe from trying to do what he can to protect the planet that seems to be the next target.

Although Wolfe oversees an unbalanced battle campaign with staggering losses. As the fight appears to be lost, Wolfe’s ships receive a rescue by the arrival of unknown ships. But then the news comes of a devastating attack at another location. Wolfe feels defeated until he is presented with a surprise opportunity to challenge the enemy.

This installment is full of military battle action which I enjoyed even if I couldn’t follow all of the descriptive details. There is development growth for several of the primary characters that added interest to the story. I liked the fast pace action and look forward to getting the next book. I recommend this to fans of military space opera.

Audio Notes: Mark Boyett does a wonderful job with the narration. He delivers clear voices and intensity in the action. The narration adds to my enjoyment of the series.

Review:
Mercy, our coyote shifter heroine, has her hands full with community and spousal stress. In book 10, Silence Fallen, Mercy claimed the Tri-cities areas under the protection of the local Columbia Basin werewolf pack led by her Alpha husband, Adam. The pack has its share of danger balancing issues among the local vampires, witches, werewolves, and fae, while protecting the humans from those with supernatural powers. Of course, this sets up a chance for various outside groups who feel they can challenge the pack while it is spread thin. There is a rogue group of werewolves, led by a dangerous assassin, who think they can take out the edges of Adam’s pack and then challenge him.

Before they even know about the rogue werewolf threat, Mercy finds her elderly, sweet neighbors murdered. Mercy is bitten by what appears to be a wild rabbit until they learn it is an evil, mind controlling creature who has escaped from Underhill into Mercy’s own backyard. Fortunately, Mercy is saved with the help of a creepy ‘stalker’, but it makes her realize that something is wrong with her mate bond with Adam.

Adam has been acting tense and standoffish and Mercy begins to wonder and doubt the strength of their relationship. Will she be able to face the wolf, or worse, and still keep their unique bond? As noted, there are at least three threads of suspense moving in this book. Ms. Briggs presents her impressive creativity with fast paced action and tension. I like how she weaves in a touch of fairy tale classic into the fae situation. The author also has built a strong emotional relationship between Mercy and Adam and she makes it real to life stresses. I love this series and highly recommend it. I do suggest starting from the beginning not only to get to know the characters but also to enjoy the entertainment!

Audio Notes: Lorelei King is a superb narrator and does a wonderful job with this series. The characters come to life with all their energy and stresses.  I’m sure the story is good if read in print/ebook, but for me it is a great listening experience.

If you saw the pictures posted of my bookshelves and boxes you know I do have lots of books! And that doesn't include the other eight or so boxes at my office!! And more books as I find deals too good to pass up! I am sharing my book bounty by these Friday Pick Giveaways.

I started Friday Pick on November 27, 2009 and in almost TEN years I have posted 91 groups of 16 books plus an additional 21 totaling 1,477 books available to find new homes! (As of November 6, 2020).

I am happy to say that so far about 1,353+ books have found new homes through this feature! YAY. [A year or so ago I posted I had reached 2000 books given away. As I calculated the numbers 11/2/17 I realized that had to be an error. I realized I went from 1098 to 2001 instead of 1101. Guess I was tired; sorry for the error.] I have to update my print out to check the exact number sent out - a few were never claimed. I periodically update the lists - deleting those won. You can still go to the Friday Pick list link to see older posts and the older lists book pictures if you want!

I learned that The Book Depository does not ship to everywhere. The postage for some of the books to faraway places runs between $7.00 and $10.00 and up. Since I would award $5.00 for The Book Depository to an international winner, as an alternative you may choose a smaller book and we will hope the postage will not exceed $6.00. Review:
Charlotte and Adam separated after tragedy struck their family and grief overwhelmed their relationship. Charlotte lives quietly in their little lakeside home that is set away from the busier community. She has adjusted her life and has tried, not fully successfully, to convince herself that she has accepted her circumstance. One night her dog growls and she steps outside to investigate. She prevents an abduction but gets injured in the process. She wakes up in the hospital to find her ex-husband, Adam, hovering.

Since Adam left Whisper Lake, he has been involved with a special FBI unit pursuing a serial killer known as the Night Stalker. He was headed to investigate the abduction which fit the profile and MO of the Stalker, but he was told he couldn’t be part of the team as his ex-wife was involved. That only strengthened his reason to go even if he had to go on personal time.

Charlotte and Adam struggle with their painful past and their apparent incomplete relationship. Meanwhile, Charlotte’s elderly neighbor is barely saved from an attack and it is clear that the Stalker is now stalking Charlotte as a loose end witness. Can Adam capture the killer, keep Charlotte safe, and maybe win her back too?

The plot isn’t totally smooth as I had to wonder why the long illusive Stalker is suddenly making mistakes. It was easy to root for Charlotte and Adam even though there is emotional self-think which isn’t always my favorite to read. I was glad that the story moved along at a quick pace. I also like that the author includes a picture of underlying faith. The author shows that people of faith are not exempt from sorrow and struggle, but she also shows that God is faithful to guide the believer who seeks Him. I enjoyed this quick romantic suspense and recommend it to readers who enjoy the genre with a faith foundation.

Audio Notes: Emily Durante does a very nice job with the narration. The narration is clear and conveys the energy and emotions of the characters. I enjoyed the audio experience.
