- On Sale and at the Top of Everyone’s Christmas Gift Lists October 2012 -

“Alexander’s divine Victorian Christmas confection provides an abundance of wit and warmth… This star belongs at the top of the tree.” – Publishers Weekly, STARRED REVIEW for What Happens at Christmas

#1 New York Times bestselling author Victoria Alexander has for years been a force in the world of historical romance.  This holiday season, she gifts readers with WHAT HAPPENS AT CHRISTMAS, a passionate Victorian English holiday romance filled with her signature wit and warmth. In it, a beautiful widow finds her plan for a Christmas proposal going perfectly awry.
Camille, Lady Lydingham, knows what she wants for Christmas—an official engagement to a handsome prince. The prince insists on getting her family’s approval first, which leaves the lovely widow with a problem. The last thing Camille wants is for him to meet her unconventional relatives. But with the aid of a troupe of actors, Camille can pull off a Christmas deception of massive proportions.

At least until Grayson Elliot shows up. A dozen years ago, their romance ended at her mother’s insistence. Now he’s back, playing absolute havoc with her scheme—and with her heart. Because for Grayson, losing Camille once was quite bad enough. Losing her twice? Unthinkable.

And he’ll find a way to show her they belong together—this season, and every Christmas yet to come…

New York Times bestselling author Victoria Alexander was an award-winning television reporter until she discovered fiction was much more fun than real life. Since the publication of her first book in 1995, she has written twenty-five full-length novels and six novellas. Her books have hit the top ten on the New York Times bestseller list and regularly appear on the USA Today and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists.  She has twice been nominated for the Romance Writers of America's prestigious RITA award.  She lives in Omaha, NE.

Forever's Paranormal Blog Tour and Giveaway> Two Books, Three Winners!

As part of the Forever's Paranormal Blog Tour I am please to share a Mini Q&A with Kendra Leigh Castle, author of Midnight Reckoning.

1.      Do I plot out the series?
I openly admit to being a pantser extraordinaire.  I never know what’s going to happen when I sit down to write!  Each book flows naturally from the previous one, and I like it that way.  It’s actually really difficult for me to plot.  I do have to write synopses, but they rarely bear much resemblance to the finished product.  Fortunately, my editor is awesome and doesn’t seem to mind!
2.      Do I do anything helpful for world-building?
I don’t really have much of a system.  I do like visuals, but I rarely tack up anything more than character models on my bulletin board.  If I need to “see” something, I’ll go hunting on Google.  I do keep a notebook for each story, but they’re sort of jumbled—sometimes I’ll write chapters longhand when I’m not getting anywhere on the keyboard.  One of these days I really need to sit down and put all my bits and pieces together into a story bible, because it really is a pain to have to look things up that I’ve forgotten.  Oh, I also write things on Post-it notes, which I would not recommend for anyone.  My husband sometimes gets overzealous with the cleaning!
3.      Best tips I’ve received on writing
I’m a fan of the Nora Roberts method: just get your butt in the chair.  There are really only a few tips that apply to everyone as far as the actual process goes.  We’re all different, and we all work our own way.  But truly, one of the most important things is just getting your butt in that chair, every day, and writing something.  You can’t wait until the spirit moves you if you want to make a career of this.  Deadlines are unmoved by anything, especially the spirit.  Along those lines, one of my favorite pieces of advice is from Steven King in his amazing book On Writing.  He basically says to keep pressing forward with every story, to get your word count in for the day, every day, because sometimes you’re actually doing good work even if you feel like all you’re doing is shoveling, um, manure from a sitting positionJ
 ~~~~~~
 Thank you to Kendra for sharing these answers on her writing:
 Please check out my review of Midnight Reckoning - a very enjoyable read!
Thank you to Jillian at Hachette Forever for these two books to read and for providing THREE sets of Midnight Reckoning and Firelight for giveaway!
    Audiobook Week Love Giveaway
    Note: images may be slow to load since there are so many in this post.
    This Giveaway is to Celebrate Audiobook Week Love. I read listen to at least two books a week on my MP3 or on tape or CD in the car.  I have had a subscription since 2006 at Audible.com that provides me two Audible picks each month.  Figure that up it is a lot of audiobooks especially when you add ones I have bought at the $4.99 sales. I find it hard to understand why readers wouldn't love to listen to books. Even my DH, who is NOT a reader, will listen to certain Audible or audio books. Check out the great post Sheila at Book Journey did rejecting excuses for not listening to audiobooks!  She has a giveaway too. :-)
    Also check out the interesting History Buff Audiobook giveaway, other audio giveaways and discussion posts at the celebration host site: Devourer of Books.
    For this Giveaway I am offering two commentors a chance to win an audio book.
    TO ENTER:
    1.  Comment telling me about an audio book you love; or tell me why you have never tried audio (chicken!?).
    2.  Comment on my Audio Book Week Mid Week Meme Post for an extra entry.
    3.  Plus more extra entries for any other Audio or Audible review you comment on. Keep track so you can let me know where you commented for extra credit.
    #1 Draw is open to US and Canada only
    #2 open worldwide with the proviso that I reserve the right to award a $10.00 GC if the postage would exceed that amount.
