Sharing Beyond Books #114 Comment Giveaway August 24, 2013

Hello again on Saturday night and Welcome to SBB, Sharing Beyond Books.

I had another busy week and have spent the last 4 hours getting my travel computer cleaned up and set up for our trip. Ugh what a chore that has been. My reading and reviewing is a little behind. I'm not sure how much I will get posted in the next week since we will be on cruise. I plan to take it day by day.

Two groups were pretty evenly split on the parts of book we like: six like the ending (or epilogue) and five like the whole book. Two liked the beginning (or the hook) and a couple had no favorite spot. Llehn likes "where it all comes together" and I like how Nikki likes the ending but also likes 'the journey.'

We have several people from areas that have street fairs or events in local parks. Others from small areas have no street fairs but some farmers markets and surrounding festivals. rubynreba's town has a Watermelon day and Janhvi's community celebrates a Festival of Dwali or Festival of Lights. Ricki noted that in a big city there are no street fairs but they do have summer festivals.

Thank you to all who shared last week.

The Winner from SBB #113 comments is: #14 rubynreba who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the ARC/Review titles, Christmas titles or Love titles - all linked near the end of the post.  Please let me know your choice by completing the (new) WINNER FORM.

WEEK #114

Q1. Mary P asks: When you have read an e-book do you delete or keep it??
A: I delete the Kindle books since they remain in the Amazon account. PDFs that I have converted for Kindle are also stored in the Amazon account but I do keep the PDF version and regularly move them to my backup drive.

Q2. My non-bookish Question this time to go with last week's question: Do you have bigger events like County Fairs and do you attend??
A: We do not have a County Fair where we live now. However there is a large National Peanut Festival south of Dothan, Alabama which is the closest we get to a full fair. We haven't been for a few years so hope to take the grandkids this November.

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! We are getting low on questions so hopefully you will send more in -- even if they are duplicates I'll weed through or try to modify to use.

Your turn to share:

Q2. My nonbookish Question this time (inspired by Carol L's last hoorah answer): Do you have bigger events like County Fairs and do you attend??

  1. 1. I don't have device for e-books so I can't answer this question though more likely I'll keep it.

    2. No on both counts.

  2. 1. Seeing how I don't own that many eBooks I keep them on my Kindle as it's a manageable size which does not result in too much searching to find a certain volume in the list.

    2. I wish we had big fair's where I live, but sadly we don't. Maybe the closest thing to a fair would be art markets with a bit of entertainment program, but on a rather small scale, in my home town.

  3. 1) i would keep them

    2) not sure what thing could compare with what you call county fai but i think it's fair to assume we have some^^

  4. 1. I sometimes delete books off my Nook but typically just keep them on there.

    2. We have all kinds of county fairs near us. There's probably 10-15 larger 4-5 day fairs within an hour in each direction of us. We occasionally attend depending on the concert artists, definitely more so when the kids were younger.

  5. 1. I kind of feel like an e-book is disposable, not like a hard copy, so I delete it once I have read it. That's sad to think that way about books.

    2. My town is gearing up for it's big carnival of the year. It's loads of fun. People come from all over the world for our Carnival of Flowers. The town looks incredible & the champion gardens are just amazing. Yes, Spring is almost here for us.

  6. I keep them.

We have a religious Hindu festival in my country/city I live in called Thaipusam where devotees parade thru the streets following a carriot carrying the image of their God from one temple to another. It's quite an amazing sight. I only watch if I happen to be driving by the roads where the parade passes by.

    Read about it here

  7. If they aren't on my Kindle account, then I will save them to a brainstick or the main computer's hard drive.

My little village doesn't have any events, but the nearest village has a very. very small (1-6 booths) farmers' market. The further you drive, the more that goes on. Like this weekend I am at Bubonicon - the SFF convention of Albuquerque, NM.

  8. 1. I don't read e-books.

    2. I live in a small town. We don't have a fair but we do have a Harvest Festival, which is great fun.

  9. 1. It depends on the e-book, if I keep it or not...I usually only keep ones that I want to read again.

    2. There aren't any county fairs or something similar here.

  10. Yes, I keep all my read ebooks in a 'read' folder, just in case I want to revisit them. I won't likely re-read them, but I don't like the idea of deleting them.

I don't know what big events are around here yet, but if there are, we will go.

  11. I don't have an e-reader either. But I'd probably delete it especially since Amazon stores them.

My town doesn't have a Country Fair but a town half an hour away has one every year. We do go because it's so awesome.

  12. 1- I've never read an ebook - don't have an eReader

2- haven't been to a fair or big event in years - don't really like crowds - there use to be an annual Labor Day Kiwanis fair just down the street from me, but that was discontinued

  13. 1. Right now, I tend to keep all of them, either in the 'cloud' or on my Kindle. Especially since I can make highlights and notes on the Kindle, it's great to be able to go right back into it. :)

    2. There is a county fair in September. Sometimes we attend...it depends on the weather and whether we have extra money for an outing like that.

  14. I delete e-books.

We have a County Fair that we always attend. So much fun!!

Thanks so much. I'll have a good time picking out a book.

  15. 1. I delete them after I read them.
    2. We do have county fairs and I do go sometimes.

  16. Q1: I keep my e-books.

Q2: Where I used to live they have a big county fair which is going right now over Labor Day weekend. Where I live now they have a fair too, but I haven't been to it yet.

  17. I don't delete ebooks. Maybe if I don't like it, yes.

We have a Carnival where I live, is in November and there's a party in different locations all month. We have a fair and a big parade.. not as big as the one at Rio, but yes, they really want to have a party like that here.
This year is going to be November 30, is always the last saturday of November, and the party last 'till 4 a.m. at some places!
I love it because I always have felt that month is full of life, and because of the amusement rides, and food! We have a lot of sweetmeats ummm I'm sure you would all loved it! Maybe I can take some photos this year :)
