Sharing Beyond Books #90 Comment Giveaway March 9, 2013

Hello, Welcome to SBB.
I hope everyone is good this week. Time for daylight savings here tonight so I have to be careful not to stay up too late as we lose and hour. :-)
Thank you to all who shared last week.

Ther most popular cakes are chocolate, chocolate and chocolate! Then ice cream cake, cheesecake and Angel food. A few have unusual tastes like Tres Lech for Bookhishqueen, white cake for LindaK and red velvet for Dione.  And Happy Birthday to miki whose BD must be coming up. :-)

Everyone agreed that we have books languishing except for Sarah who just finished hers! About a half dozen might do a challenge but a couple wouldn't be ready for April. I may do one that spreads over two months. Or maybe one in April and another in June. I'll take a week or so think about it.

The Winner from SBB #89 comments is: #10 LindaK, who can make a book choice from the ARC/Review titles, Christmas titles or Love titles - all linked near the end of the post. Please let me know your choice by completing the WINNER FORM.

WEEK #90 Questions

Q1. Nrlymrtl asks: If you could design your personal library, with endless resources, what would be the 3 most important things about it??
A:  I suppose smoky rooms might not be good for a library but I do love our warm fireplace in our den which has multiple bookshelves. I have put the books on the shelves at the end farthest from the fire.  I would want a really comfy chair and good light. And then I would add a good computer system for researching. Hmmm - I guess that is four things. :-)
I don't think this one has a fireplace but I love the use of space!

Q2. My non-bookish Question this week: What is your favorite bird??
A: If I had to pick one favorite I guess it would be the hummingbirds. I love to watch them zip to the feeder and chase each other away. Sometimes they stop a few feet away and stare at us. They are sooo cute. My second choice would be the cardinals. We have a family that has a nest and we have three or four young cardinals playing in the back yard trees when they are big enough. I love the sound of their sweet whistle in the morning.
This is one of the little hummers at our house!
I hope to get better pictures this year.

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! We can always use fresh questions.

Your turn to share:

  1. 1. It would be an enclosed room on the outside of the house with big windows with screens on all 3 of the outside walls so in cooler days I could open them up and feel like I was outside. I'd want a very comfy love seat, good lighting, a table with chair for my computer, lots of plants and lots and lots of bookshelves

    2. My favorite bird is a Cockatiel. I used to have one named Toby and I loved that bird so much. I'd love to have another one, but don't think my doggy would like that very much!

  2. 1. Open fireplace, spiral staircase (because obviously it would have to be one of those high ceiling libraries which allows for an additional level reserved for books, only accessible over the mentioned staircase), and a super comfy wing chair.

    2. Birds, birds ... let me think ... I'd say owls. They are pretty cool. And a stuffed one would go well with my new library above. Did you just gasp? Don't worry, we're talking about a stuffed plush owl, obviously. ;-)

  6. 1. I now have a library! We were going to use the 2nd bedroom for storage but since most of what needed to be stored, I thought of a library. I love this room. I shelved all of my TBR books on my three small cases and left the rest in bins. I have a rocking chair now but would love to have a chair with a hassack that I could put my feet up on. My husband has already added an extra light so I can read easier. Also have all my records, CDs, and tapes there so I can play music whenever I want. I have lots of wallhangings and a few embroidering pictures that I still want to hang.

    2. My favorite outside bird is the cardinal. Even though he snatches food away from other birds, I love his song and bright red color. I missed him so much in California that when on a trip to Massachuetts, I cried when I saw one! Now I live in Texas where I can still see them occaisonally.

My favorite inside bird is a cockatiel too. We have Squeaky, an old man of 25 years and Speckles, a younger, adventurous one of 19 years. Each have very distinct personalities. Squeaky can be grumpy while, Speckles is always so excited that a new day has dawned!

  7. I'd want a comfy recliner, windows to see outside and a big entertainment center with shelves

  8. I would like dark wood walls, a comfortable chair and a large area for my books. The one at the Hearst Castle would be nice. I remember how impressed I was when I saw it.

    I love Sparrows.

  9. 1) The three most important things would be a lot of shelves. Some large windows for natrual light, and a big, comfy, couch.

    2)A Bird of Paradise

  10. My ideal library would have a nature gazebo for daytime reading, a cozy fireplace for nighttime reading, and a book revolving door - meaning the I could always send books out and have new ones come in within 12 hours.

My favorite bird is the great blue heron, just like the ones that fish in my pond.

  11. 1. - floor to ceiling bookshelves, loaded up with books of course
    - comfortable lounges for reading, I'd have to share the space with other members of the family, so we need a few
    - a bar fridge for snacks, I don't want to have to waste good reading time by leaving the room

    2. My favorite bird is the kookaburra. Mostly because ALL of the other birds eat my grapes - flocks of them. The kookaburra is a beautiful round shape with a beak that can kill snakes. I've seen this. It's impressive & useful. They tend to move in pairs - a female & a male. They have a laugh that can brighten the day. If you hear them laugh in the afternoon it means rain.

  12. Big bookshelves to hold all of my books, a big comfy recliner and great lighting

I'm not really fond of birds in the house but I love to watch birds of prey soaring. I like the grace and silence of them.

  13. I'd want a personal library to have lots of natural light, lots of comfy couches and chairs, and come with a wi-fi ereader so I could choose to read physical or ebook versions depending on my mood.

I've never really thought about birds before, but I guess my favourite are the perky little songbirds that sing in the trees in the morning. There is nothing that say spring quite like hearing them for the first time each March.

  14. 1 - lots of shelving, comfortable lounge sofa for reading, and good lighting
2 - a Cardinal - reminds me of my Dad - I have his collection - many for the Christmas tree, but also stained glass figures for the windows all year

  18. 1. I have really bad knees so if I had my dream library my shelves would be low and adjustable, kinda stackable/rotating going frontwards and backwards, if that makes sense. I would also want big comfy seating for several people to relax and read and big bay windows for natural lighting and shades.

    2. I think blue birds are pretty...but that could be because I don't know much about birds and I collect cobalt blue glass and these are the first that come to mind.

  19. 1. Oh, I'd have one of those big, tall ones like in the olden day movies. Or like Belle's (Beauty & The Beast) Lots of pretty woods.

    2) Hummingbirds. Those were always my grandpa's favorite birds and every time I see one it brings a smile to my face and reminds me of my grandpa

  21. I'd want an electronic cataloging and locating system that would tell me exactly what books I had & in which shelf/spot the book is located. Then a good air conditioning/ventilation system (i live in the tropics. It's hot) and good lighting.

My fav bird is the eagle.
