Sharing Beyond Books #81 Comment Giveaway January 5, 2013

Hello, Welcome to SBB and Welcome to 2013! (Yay - internet held up so I could get this posted!)
I hope everyone had a safe New Year's transition...and now we are moving quickly into 2013!

Thank you to all who shared last week.

Most of us have at least one project planned for 2013. Many have learning goals: crafts for Birgit, languages for Ana, cooking and sewing for Jolene and driving for Abby. Several wish to do some traveling or vacationing. Ricki is planning on attending several Cons including dressing up so that sounds like fun! Several of us have "clean up" or organize goals. (Winnie and Abby want to reorganize books...I am doing that one too - I used to do it regularly but haven't for a year or two now.) And a couple of you have no specific goals in mind and Mary (who already did 'spring cleaning') hopes to have a calm year.

It looks like a preference for reading both favorite authors and new-to-me authors just barely edges out those who prefer to read new-to-me authors. Jolene is the only one apparently reviewing favorite authors or authors she follows and series. Winnie made a distinction that she likes to read both but would request new-to-me as she would buy her favs anyway. :-)

The Winner from SBB #80 comments is: #14 Carol. There are still 5 'love' books to pick from and new Christmas choices. Carol please choose a book (or GC if international) from the remaining five Love Books List for Giveaway, the new Christmas Giveaway Book list, OR pick from the Updated ARC/Review List and let me know your choice, your address and a choice of bookmarks by completing the WINNER FORM.

WEEK #81 Questions

Q1. Faith Hope & Cherrytea asks several questions: (a)Do you post reviews of the books you read? (b)All or just some? (c)What determines if you post or don't? (d)Do you post for books you don't like? (e)Where do you post your reviews??
I chose to ask this question as it went along with some of the answers from last week.
(a)Do you post reviews of the books you read? Yes I do.
(b)All or just some? Almost all; some books I do short review comments.
(c)What determines if you post or don't? I do shorts for books that are off my shelf (TBR) picks and when I am pressed on time.
(d)Do you post for books you don't like? Yes, although I always try to include positive comments and specifics. Also, since I pick the books I will read, whether TBR or review offers, I tend to like most of what I read and have only had one or two that have been on the negative side.
(e)Where do you post your reviews? Obviously here on my blog but I am trying to get them up at Amazon and Goodreads to.

Q2. My  question this week: Did you celebrate the New Year with a Bang a Whimper or a Snore?? And did you make any resolutions this year??
A: I have to choose the Whimper option. I did stay awake although DH went to bed before midnight. I was doing work on my computer while New York partied. :-)  And this year I did not stop to take time to make any resolutions -- at least not yet!

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! I STILL HAVE A GROUP OF QUESTIONS AVAILABLE BUT THEY ARE FROM ABOUT FOUR PEOPLE SO SOME OF YOU MAY WANT TO ADD A QUESTION OR TWO! We can always use fresh questions.

Your turn to share:

1. Faith Hope & Cherrytea asks several questions: (a)Do you post reviews of the books you read? (b)All or just some? (c)What determines if you post or don't? (d)Do you post for books you don't like? (e)Where do you post your reviews??

2. My Question: Did you celebrate the New Year with a Bang a Wimper or a Snore?? And did you make any resolutions this year??

SBB Comment Winners can choose a selection from the remaining Valentine and "Love" books (5 left) or the new Christmas Giveaway Books. Also I have added the Updated ARC/Review List now.

SBB Rules:
a) Must be a follower.
b) Share a comment on any (or all) of the two/three questions above.
Open internationally and an international winner may get a smaller book or a $5.00 GC if I decide the mailing is too much.

I will pick a Comment winner from all comments made by Friday, January 11, 2013 at 10 PM central.

  1. 1. I don't post reviews of each and every book I read, I just don't have time for that. I do, however, post my thoughts on them in my weekly Sunday feature, but only a line or two, and that hardly makes a review. As I am now solely reviewing non fiction on my blog that certainly reduces the amount of actual reviews.
I certainly post reviews for books that didn't work for me (unless it was a DNF, then I won't) though I generally have a good hand in choosing books and rarely encounter really bad books. I post on my blog, and also share on Amazon, Goodreads, LibraryThing, and even link them up on Pinterest.

    2. Ha, love the question. My answer? Snore.
    Resolutions? No.

  2. 1. No.

    2. New year is like any other day. I don't wait for them to make improvements to my life.

  3. This year's new year was spent at home with my family. We had a lovely dinner ad then saw some fireworks. I haven't made any new year resolutions yet but I just hope that 2013 turns out to be a great reading year for me :)

  4. ^^
    1) Yes i write review of what i'm reading, nearly every one yes ( i don't receive lot of requests so they are my own book) and yes even if i didn't like them because i want to be honest but i explain why i don't want to insult the author or anthing but i wouldn't be honest if i wrote just what authors want. I post them on my blog and if i don't forget on goodreads ( when it's a request also on amazon, goodread sometime sbookdepository)

    2) this year, at new have both my mother and brother were sick so i had to take care of everything and i got really tired but i did stay awake so i could ofer my gifts and send some email with my 2013 wishes. Resolution...the same as always start taking care of myself perhaps this year will be the one when i manage^^

    happy 2013 to all

  6. Forgot to answer Question #2.
I'd say a whimper. My husband and I went out for a nice dinner then came home and watched TV then did our own thing until almost midnight. Went to bed right after. My resolution for this year is to acquire less soap because I have way to much and it accumulates quickly.

  7. I wouldn't say that I saw the New Year in with a bang, so I guess it would be a wimper. I stayed up an saw the New Year in, but didn't do anything fancy. I don't usually make resolutions but I have to so far. I plan on reading more books this year and saving money to remodel my home.

-> I post reviews of the books I read, not all of them, but most of them, what determines if I will post the review is the relevance of what I have to say and a) if I hated the book and/or it is up to my average reading grade of 3 =] Which answers for the other question, yeah, I might post reviews on books I hated... And only sometimes I post them @ goodreads also xD

  9. 1. I post reviews of some of the books I read...primarily the books I receive specially for review. I try to find something positive to share about books that I don't enjoy reading. I post reviews on my blog (www.etrabelsie.blogspot.com), as well as Amazon and Goodreads.

    2. I celebrated New Year's with my husband and his side of the family. We had a wonderful time! :)

  10. Happy 2013 Martha! And to everyone else as well. Happy bookish year! I'm here to stay.

    1.
(a)Yes, but not nearly as often as I would like.

(b)Just some, but I hope to catch up on lots of them this year! Mini resolution I suppose.

(c)TIME! If I had more of it, I would post everything. Hope to do some of that.

(d)Not yet. Since there are SO MANY I love but have yet to post as well

(e)My blog only so far...www.by-abby.blogspot.com (if you're so inclined to pay a visit)

    2. Bang a Wimper. Sort of. This year (2012/2013) was spent at a parent's friend's house at a party, we exchanged hugs...sadly could not see any fireworks except on TV. Did not make any this year. In general, meaning I did not publish any but I have a few mini secret ones (like in #1).

    THANKS!

  12. 1. Sometimes I am moved to write a review if the book is a **WOW** read for me. I should write more, but I generally forget to.

    2. I tend to sleep through the New Year. I've had my fair share of all-nighters in the past though. I don't make resolutions. I just break them, but going back to the reviews, I could make that a goal for 2013.

  13. I don't post reviews.

New Years is just another day to me. I did watch the Dick Clark special on TV and hit the sack at 10 pm. No need to stay up til midnight. So, that means it was a snore for me.

  14. My two year old grandson and I went to bed at 9:30 and were sleeping shortly after! I love that little boy so much and so that was much more fun than staying up until midnight!!!

  15. The only place I've posted a few reviews is on Goodreads - mostly when I've won a book there.

New Years was very quiet for me, but I actually was awake at midnight and saw the fireworks my neighbor shot off - very pretty.

  16. 1. don't post reviews
    2. celebrated with family; don't really make resolutions

  17. I post reviews of most of the books I read on Goodreads. If the book is really good & especially if it's a new author I also post a review on Amazon.

It was a quiet New Year for me, didn't do anything special.

  18. (a and b) Yes, I post reviews of the books I read, but I only do it some of the time. (c) I usually post reviews for books I really liked, books I didn't like, books I was asked to review, and any books I have strong feelings about. (d) I do post my reviews for books I don't like. I wasted my time reading it, and I warn people why I didn't like it and they can then use that info to decide whether or not to give it a try. You know what they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure. (e) I post my reviews on Goodreads, my blog, AllRomance, and Amazon, and sometimes at other publishing sites as well.

I celebrated the New Year with a Whimper, didn't really do anything special beyond watching the ball drop. Yes, I did make resolutions.

  19. I review all books that I finish, on my blog and also goodreads. Each year I have a few books that get negative reviews, but I also try to be respectful, constructive, and also point out the few positives that I noted. I am pretty eclectic in my reading tastes, so I don't have a fear of trying an unknown author or stepping outside my 3 fave genres (scifi, fantasy, historical fiction).

For New Years, my man and I enjoyed a wonderful veggie curry followed by a night of half a bottle of a desert wine, conversation, and kissing.
