Sharing Beyond Books #78 Comment Giveaway 12/15/12

Hello and Welcome to another SBB!

Thanks for understanding why I didn't post last week. I hadn't had a chance to get the post ready ahead and the cruise internet is slow and costs per minute. I basically have to prepare the posts off line and then load up to save time.
Is everyone getting ready for the holidays by now?
Thank you to all who shared two weeks ago.

Surprisingly the larger group of commenters DOES re-read, some regularly and some only sometimes or just a special book or two. Others might re-read if they didn't have such big TBRs.

Also surprising to me - Many of you still send Christmas cards. Nine send out cards and several of us send e-cards and/or family cards. When are kids were young we did the family letter routine but we haven't for years now although that is a great way to keep others advised of changes, births and jobs, etc.. I think I would love to read one of nrlymrtl's letters with the farm antics!

The Winner from SBB #77 comments is: #1 Mystica There are still 5 'love' books to pick from and new Christmas choices. Mystica please choose a book (or GC if international) from the remaining five Love Books List for Giveaway, the new Christmas Giveaway Book list, OR pick from the Updated ARC/Review List and let me know your choice, your address and a choice of bookmarks by completing the WINNER FORM.

WEEK #78 Questions

Q1. Winnie asks a book question: I know a lot of us stay up late at nights to read books, but I'm interested to know if there is anyone who would wake up early to sneak some reading time in before the day begins??
I do, I do! LOL. I will sneak in reading whenever I can even if it means waking up early. I don't necessarily 'get up' but I have the kindle or mp3 next to me so I can listen or sometimes I will go to the restroom and bring my book back for a half hour reading before I get up!  :-)

Q2. Abby asks a holiday related question this week: Do you feel more obliged/in the mood of giving during the festive seasons? Or more so in times of serious crises ie. Sandy Relief??
A: I tend to give various times of the year and for special crises. I have certain charities that I like to make sure I give donations to and often that occurs early in a year.

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions.    Thanks for sending in questions! We can always use fresh questions.

  1. 1. Oh I wish, but no. I did so as a child though. Nothing better than to roll over again with a book in my hands when I was little. Of course this only worked on weekends. Maybe I should give it a try sometime - just staying in pajamas, grabbing some tea and getting back into bed with a nice fat tome!

    2. I usually give more around Christmas time than during the year come to think of it. I wouldn't say I feel obliged to do so, but maybe it's all the charities going from door to door which makes it more personal, but ultimately I will only give when I want to and not because I feel pressured to do so.

  2. 1. No. I'd rather stay up late than get up early to read.

    2. Probably the same for both.

  3. 1)Not really to read, i can get up early so i can finish email etc first then if i get time read a bit but i prefer to have a longer moment to read without having to stop or be interrupted

    2) i prefer to give all year long

thank you a lot and happy holidays to all

  5. In the winter, with those late mornings, I like to sneak in a chapter or two.

Throughout the year I give to some animal shelters that I know and have visited. For presents especially at Xmas, I try to buy from local craftsmen and artists, though we make a lot of our own presents.

ps - the latest farm escapade was the fear-inducing inanimate wheel barrow terrorizing the goats. Too funny!

  9. 1. I sneak in reading whenever I can and I tend to go to bed late and read when all my kids are sleeping, and get up early and read a little before they wake up. Reading in the morning tends to be a little dangerous though, I've been know to get really into a book and then an hour later.....oops, bus just came and kids are still sleeping :)

  10. 1. I don't, but one of my sisters sets her alarm for half an hour earlier, makes two cups of tea & climbs back into bed for her reading time before her day really begins.

    2. I have my favorite organisations that I give to all year.

  11. 1. i'm the stay up all night reading type. It's hard enough to wake up on time, much less sneak in some extra reading time.

  14. 1. I am a night cat. Or owl if you prefer. And a bit of a vampire. I stay up at "night" and wake up as late as possible. So nope regarding the waking up early to read.

    2. THANKS Martha for picking my Q! I sponsor a child via my local World Vision so that is all year round. But I do give in times of crisis like the Japanese Tsunami one. Would have liked to donate to the Sandy Relief 121212 concert but they didn't have my country listed in the phone numbers GRR..... Also, I sometimes donate to WV's Gift of Hope which starts in November and is a great way to donate money instead of getting people gifts.

  15. 1 - Lately, I actually have been reading for a little while first thing in the morning, but I have to be careful not to let time get away from me.
2 - I'll give when the opportunity presents and the mood strikes - I just try to be careful where I give so that it does the most good - the local NY TV news reporters are really stressing to use certain references to help the families of the Sandy Hook victims which implies there are some bogus ones surfacing already. Also for Hurricane Sandy relief. I'm a little more restricted this year because of all the trees I have down from Hurricane Sandy & have to get taken care of, but that is nothing compared to so many who had major or complete damage to their homes. Isn't it odd that both of those recent tragedies are name Sandy - I always thought that was such a nice name.
