Sharing Beyond Books #65 Comment Giveaway September 8, 2012

Welcome to another SBB!

Hello again on Saturday Night -- or really Sunday morning as I am late finishing this. We had a wonderful day visiting with our daughter, sil and the grandkids! So I didn't get a review or any pictures sorted and posted.

Thank you to all who shared last week.

Some other commenters liked the Bell Bottom choice for a comeback. Several had no choice. Linda chose miniskirts - I still see a few of those now and then and I shake my head to think I wore them in college! Yikes!  Spav would like to try a corset. Not sure about the comfort of that choice but I have seen them as a fairly sexy retro fashion.  There again, you have to have the right figure (and right occassion) for that. :-)

I am surprised that many commenters did not have any Alaska book suggestions! There were some good ones though and Carol L reminded me of Dani Harper's shifter series. One author who I was surprised no one mentioned is Kate Bridges who has written quite a few titles set in Alaska. I happen to have three of her titles on my TBR and I see that Alaskan Renegade is set in Skagway which is one of the towns we visited on the cruise. I'll have to read that soon and share it.

The Winner from SBB #64 comments is: #12 Abby There are still 6 'love' books to pick from and 1 Christmas choice (I guess I'll have to add some titles to that list soon). Abby please choose a book (or GC if international) from the remaining Love Books List for Giveaway, remaining Christmas Giveaway Book, OR pick from the Updated ARC/Review List and let me know your choice, your address and a choice of bookmarks by completing the WINNER FORM.

WEEK #65 Questions

Q1. Cheryl C shares and asks: My family members are all big sports fans, especially football. I have read a lot of contemporary romances where the hero is a sports figure. Susan Elizabeth Phillips has a football series, Rachel Gibson wrote about hockey players, and there are many other examples. What is the sport that you most enjoy reading about??  {Share an author if you know one!}
A: I haven't spent a lot of time thinking on this since I just pulled the Question for the post tonight.  I have enjoyed the SEP football series. I can't think of too many other sports related character series so I guess I'll go with those.:-).
From the cover who would guess this book has a football hero?

Q2. I couldn't resist this follow-up to last week's Q1. What fashion would you like to see disappear from this era or any other??
A:  I have to say my number 1 choice is the guys wearing their pants falling off their backsides.  That is SOOO unattractive - and I am not even going to look for an image of that! My number 2 choice is for the females who wear spandex leggings under a shirt. I think this may be a newer fashion thing? Even on thin women it doesn't seem very attractive to me but it is especially not pleasant on "fuller" figures, IMHO.

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask.  Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I will draw from the suggestions I used the month before and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions but some of you others might want to get in a question or two as we have a few people submitting most of the questions so far.  Either way - it works for me. :-)  The question list is being replenished!  Thanks for sending in questions!

Your turn to share:

1. Cheryl C asks: What is the sport that you most enjoy reading about?? {Share an author if you know one!}

2. My Question: What fashion would you like to see disappear from this era or any other??

SBB Comment Winners can choose a selection from the remaining  Valentine and "Love" books or the remaining Christmas Giveaway Books - there are still about 7 books available to choose from. Also I have added the Updated ARC/Review List now.

SBB Rules:

a) Must be a follower;
b) Share a comment on any (or all) of the two/three questions above.
Open internationally and an international winner may get a smaller book or a $5.00 GC if I decide the mailing is too much.

I will pick a Comment winner from all comments made by Friday, September 14, 2012 at 10 PM central.

  1. Congrats winners. I have to say I enjoy most sports in stories with Football being at the top. Jaci Burton has a great Football series called Play By lay. It's on my TRL. I've heard everything great about it.

    I am in total agreement about these boys and men who wear their pants half way down their rears. I'd love for it to disappear completely. And the spandex ? My daughter and I were just saying it takes guts or (God forbid) blindness to reality to wear them when one has extra weight.

  2. I don't particularly care to read about sports.

    As for fashion I hate the falling down pants thing too and I REALLY HATE those big holes in the earlobes! Yuck! lol

  3. Wearing the bangs straight up (held there by gel or moose or spray?). Unless you are doubling as a cell or radar antennae, don't do it.

    I'm not really into sports, but if the author sets the story in Ancient Greece concerning their Olympics, i would probably enjoy it. The requisite nudity is just a bonus to the story.

  4. 1. I do not enjoy reading about sports.
    2. I would love to see Uggs go - and jean shorts or skirts the pockets hanging out because they are longer than the garment.

  5. 1. I'm a fan of fiction sports books, including basketball, hockey, football, and baseball. :)

    2. I'm not a fan of 80s fashion.

  6. 1. We LOVE football and are huge fans but I don't particularly care for reading sports based books

    2. I HATE the baggy pants look too - so sloppy looking.

  7. I like reading about hockey and enjoyed Deirdre Martin's Blades series. I wouldn't mind not seeing those day glow shirts.

  8. I don't really care about sports in books.

    As far a bad fads...those sagging pants have got to go. I agree about the leggings, too. And the UGGs. Sounds like I am opinionated. I guess it comes with age.

  9. 1. I don't think i've read any sports based books yet.
    2. The baggy pants look.

  10. 1. I'm not a big sports fan. I don't actively seek out sports related stories to read. If sport is incidental to the story I don't mind or I gloss over it.

    2. The fashion I would like to see disappear is an age old one. Mutton dressed up as lamb, or even worse, children made up & dressed up way beyond their years.

  11. 1. Does Quidditch count?

    2. High waisted pants.

  12. 1. don't read a lot about sports
    2. baggy pants

  13. 1. I'm a hockey fan, so any sports-related reading I do are usually blogs and news articles about my favourite hockey team. As for sports in fiction, I'm also a sports romance fan and in this case, it really doesn't matter too much what sport it's about. I absolutely love Jaci Burton's Play by Play series! It is a contemporary sports romance series with football, baseball and hockey player heroes! :)

    2. I have to agree with the low riding, baggy pants thing!

  14. 1. I am quite open to any sport but I loved Candis Terry's sport book, Any Given Christmas!

    2. Baggy pants, hot pants (especially hot pink) on older ladies (who think they look good in them) AND harem pants OMG!

  15. Thanks for using my question!

    1. Football-themed romances are my favorite, with Susan Elizabeth Phillips' series at the top of the list. Jill Shalvis and Kate Angell have written some good baseball books, too.
    2. I hate the baggy pants, hang off your rear end look! I don't understand why the trend has lasted so long. The guys can barely walk in them!
