Martha's Bookshelf***Friday Pick November 11, 2011

[** If you are new to Friday Pick, scroll down a bit (below book group #19) for instructions on how to enter.] Update #1 - Several of you notice your comment missing from last week. That was due to the switch of the template and going from IntenseDebate to regular blogger comments. Don't fret that I've missed any comment entry as I save blog comments to a folder.

I hope everyone has had a nice week. This week wasn't quite so stressy but still strange. And I am oooh so tired tonight.

Thank you to all who entered November 4 Pick.  There was only one Automatic winner this week (those who requested the book four times and I did not note other people asking for that book during those weeks). Meanwhile there were at least half of the list blocked by duplicate requests.

Winnie has been asking for All Together Dead for 4 weeks.
Update#2:
Linda K has asked for Vanish for 5 weeks including this post. I realized that an earlier block was an international commenter. Since I wouldn't normally mail to international, I am awarding the Auto win to Linda.

CONGRATULATIONS
to Random.org picked Winners from November 4 Pick:

Jane chose Haunting of Josie
Jane has chosen this for four weeks but was blocked all four weeks by another commenter - one of them had to win eventually!)
and
Marybelle gets a GC

All winners please fill in the Winner's Acceptance Form or email me to confirm your win, send your snail mail address information and let me know if you would like bookmarks - sensual or sexy +plus - I am currently low on just sweet.

Today I spotlight a very special book:

Vietnam Veterans Memorial ~ books are used to locate names on the Wall
But I could only stand there and say a tiny prayer. One small prayer for 58,261 as I ran my hands over those laminated pages in the middle of that quiet city park on a cold December morning.

there was a soldier
tapdancing softly in the rain
above the coffin
six feet above, the people praying

May, 2011 New Group of Pick books
Group #20

Singles
Luciano's Luck by Jack Higgins - Audio Cassettes
Susan, Kearney, Julie Kenner and Jacquie D'Alessandro

3/25/11 I did get to set up a new group of books:
Group #19

Singles
Primary Colors - audio tapes
Note of Peril (black strip on cover)

2/19/11 Book Group #18- Pairs!
Not all of these are two from a series but several are. Each pick gets two books.
Patricia Cornwell Pair:

I have finally updated the intro and Entry paragraphs here:

If you saw the pictures posted of my bookshelves and boxes you know I do have lots of books! And that doesn't include the other eight or so boxes at my office!! And more books as I find deals too good to pass up! I am sharing my book bounty by these Friday Pick Giveaways.

So far I have posted 23 groups of 16 books to find new homes!

I have updated the lists - deleting those won. You can still go to the Friday Pick list link to see older posts and the older lists book pictures if you want! I am happy to say that so far about 254 books have found new homes! YAY. I have to update my print out to check the correct number sent out.

Note rules here regarding international entries.
Because postage to overseas can be prohibitive I am willing to give a $5.00 book certificate to international winners - Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders, ARe, TWRP, ClassAct Books, eTreasures, Desert Breeze, etc....you tell me where and I'll set it up. So for my overseas visitors your comment may indicate a smaller book and I'll check postage or note your choice of gift card.
I learned that The Book Depository does not ship to everywhere. The postage for some of the books to far away places runs between $5.00 and $6.00 and up. Since I would award $5.00 for The Book Depository to an international winner, as an alternative you may choose a smaller book and we will hope the postage will not exceed $6.00. If the postage is more, or if you want to pick a larger book and you are willing to pay any extra postage beyond the $6.00 I will work with you on that. This may not make a difference to many but if it helps one or two of you to give one of my books a home that will make me happy. :o)

TO ENTER:

Leave a comment and tell me WHICH BOOK you would like to get from the Friday Pick lists.
CUT OFF TIME IS THURSDAY NIGHTS AT 10:00 PM CENTRAL so I do not have to stay up past midnight to do the winner post!
I will randomly pick two winners to announce Friday mornings before the next Pick post.
Automatic wins are those who requested the book four times and I did not note other people asking for that book during those weeks.

WINNERS PLEASE CHECK THE WIN POST ON FRIDAYS AND fill in the Winner's Acceptance Form or email me at mesreads@gmail.com. [I will confirm receipt of the addresses- well I realize I haven't always done this. But if you filled out the form and don't get the book within two weeks nudge me with an email please!] If I have the winners e-mail I will send a reminder in a week or so....

Thanks for helping these books find new homes!!

Repeating this helpful blog tip: You can right click on a link and you will be given the choice to open the link in a new window or tab so you do not navigate away from the screen you are on!! I use this all the time!

  1. Congrats to the winners!

I'd love to have Legacy of the Dead. Martha, I tried for this one last week but when I checked the comments, it wasn't there.
Is anyone having a problem receiving your daily posts by email. Mine have stopped coming. I'm not getting other email posts either. Does anyone know what's going on with Feedburner? Thanks!

  3. Hi Carol M - I had all the comments made on intense debate prior to the blog change - I save comments to a folder. So this will be week 2 for your request. Thanks for letting me know about the daily post. It may be because of the change so I will check. On the other hand - we had lots of internet issues Tuesday and Wednesday and you are right that I didn't get all my email subscs either.

  6. Hi Martha - Thank you for letting me know about the comments and how you save them to a folder.
I started having problems with Feedburner last weekend. I'm only getting posts from a couple of blogs. The rest have stopped. I hope it gets worked out soon. Thanks so much for checking on it.

  9. I would like Vanish by Tess Gerritsen.

This would be week 5 but I just looked and for some reason the comment I entered for last week isn't there. So, this is week 1 again or week 4. I have no idea.

  10. Hi Linda - I explained to Carol too - I have all the previous comments saved through Intense Debate and all comments saved to a separate folder. Unfortunately your request was "blocked" on 10/28. But I do have you down for last week so this is week #2 now. BUT - I just looked back at that 10/28 and the block was by an international visitor. So I am going to say you have this as an AUTO since I wouldn't be mailing to international.

  13. Hi Carol M and Martha,
I having been having exacting the same problem. I tried Google for help and they said it would be $38 before they figure out what was wrong. I tried feedburner and found out that they were taken over by Google in 2009. Finally I gave up. I set up a new entity on my computer with a new e-mail address. All of my e-mails that go through feedburner were gone. So, I re-subscribed to all of the ones that I had record of but I know that I lost lots of favorites, some not connected with books at all.

  16. Hi Carol Wong,

This is the third time this has happened to me with Feedburner and eventually everything came back. I'm still not getting my emails so I expect it will take a while. I tried signing up at a couple of new blogs and they have starting coming in. I thought if I unsubscribed and subscribed again I would start getting them again but that hasn't worked. If I don't start getting them soon I may have to do what you did but I know I'm also going to lose a lot of them, too. This is very frustrating!

  17. Thanks, Martha! I'm excited to get this auto win since I actually haven't read a Sookie Stackhouse novel before, but have been following True Blood. Now I can see how they compare even though their storylines are a bit different :)

This week, I'd like to enter for Dark Secret (the Carpathians Book 12) by Christine Feehan.

  18. Hi Carol M,

I tried that too! This my first time for the feedburner problem. I can't imagine that happening three times.

What I did and it is working so far is to make another entity on my computer with another name and another password. So the e-mail is now coming to my new entity and when I apply to contests or write to the blogger, I have been using my old name and password.

    Carol Wong
