Just For Fun: The Importance of Walking

Today I am combining a new "post " idea I started last week, (with Shattered Dreams), "Just for Fun" with a bit about my vacation.

As mentioned in the It's Monday post we are in San Francisco and Monterey, California for the week.  After a very long day traveling we got to my stepson's house after 1am Pacific. {I didn't get to finish and post the review and giveaway on The Island. Maybe I can do it tonight and post in the morning.)
I fully planned to sleep in a bit this morning and then get on the computer. Our sweet daughter who is taking care of our dogs at home didn't think about the time difference and called us at 5 am. So that had my DH up and he was eager to ride the famous street cars.

Off we went at 8:30am to walk four blocks to buy the transport ticket and catch the Trolley to Fisherman's Wharf.  I wasn't totally with it and forgot the camera :( but the picture below is similar to the car we rode to Pier 39.  It is very neat that the cars are from all different cites. Today we rode in one from Boston and one labeled Kansas City which was used in Philadelphia from 1948-1988.  My DH figures he could have ridden on that as a young man!

We walked around Pier 39 and down to Pier 33 where we will be going on the Alcatrez Cruise on Sunday. Then we returned on the trolley line to walk the four blocks back up the hill to the house...exceot DH turned the wrong way and we ended up doing eight blocks.   If any of you have been to San Fran or seen pictures you will know that these are steep streets and you climb up a dozen or so steps to get to the door. Whew - I barely made it.  I am so out of shape.

That brings me to the "just for fun" part of this post.  I hope you enjoy these comments on walking because they sure made me chuckle!

The Importance of  Walking
Walking can add minutes to your life.

This enables you at 85 years old
to spend an additional 5 months in a nursing
home at $7000 per month.

My grandpa started walking
five miles a day when he was 60.
Now he's 97 years old
and we don't know where he is.

I like long walks,
 especially when they are taken
 by people who annoy me.

The only reason I would take up walking
is so that I could hear heavy breathing again.

I have to walk early in the morning, before my brain figures out what I'm doing..

I joined a health club last year,
 spent about 400 bucks.
 Haven't lost a pound.
Apparently you have to go there.

Every time I hear the dirty word 'exercise',
I wash my mouth out with chocolate.

The advantage of exercising every day
is so when you die, they'll say,
'Well, she looks good doesn't she.'

If you are going to try cross-country skiing,
 start with a small country.

I know I got a lot of exercise
the last few years,......
 just getting over the hill.

We all get heavier as we get older,
because there's a lot more information in our heads.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

AND

Every time I start thinking too much
about how I look,
I just find a Happy Hour
and by the time I leave,
I look just fine.

You could run this over to your friends
But just e-mail it to them
.
Or in my case just post it!

Have a great rest of the day wherever you are!
